Dr. Rustum Karanjia, MD, PhD, DABO, FRCSC
Neuro-Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus
Dr. Karanjia completed his BSc, PhD, and MD at Queen’s University, ophthalmology residency at the University of Ottawa, and fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
He leads research on electrophysiologic biomarkers, gene therapy, and artificial intelligence in optic neuropathies, including Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON).
An Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa and Clinician Investigator at OHRI, Dr. Karanjia holds the Les Amies Endowed Chair and serves as Vice-Chair (Research) for the Department of Ophthalmology. He co-leads the Electroretinogram (ERG) Program and sits on advisory boards for LHON Canada, UMDF, and IFOND.
